AGE-SPECIFIC

TRAINING

AT NA PREP

AGE APPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT PROGARMING

Program Information
8U Development camps are designed for players 4 to7-years-old as of December 31 of the camp year. We emphasize the individual hockey skills and primary team concepts in an enthusiastic, fun, structured, and safe atmosphere. Our highly regarded program revolves around the principles of teaching young players the basics of skating, stick handling, shooting, team play and most of all fun. A typical practice will begin with edge development, then move into skill stations which are modeled after the European player development model, VGT (Variable Goals Training),  later known as USA Hockey’s ADM Program (American Development Model).

Campers are divided into 6 - 8 training groups organized by age, experience, and ability.  An on-ice instructor supervises every training group in addition to the head development coach.

NAP TRAINING OVERVIEW

Our 8U program focuses on skill development with competitive (and fun) 3on3 small area games combined.

  • Skill Development: Edges, Skating mechanics, Transitional skating, Backwards, Crossovers.

  • Overspeed and Quick feet skating drills.

  • Game situations, and concepts - learn how to utilize skating and puck skills in a game setting. It's crucial for young hockey players to learn how to play with and without the puck.

  • Small area games and 3v3 cross-ice.

  • Off-ice activities include Track & Field Events,  team building, hiking, roller hockey, shooting range, puck handling range, classroom, and videotape analysis videos.

We will spend 3 hours on-ice working on basic hockey fundamentals, as well as an hour on our North American Preparatory campus working on their basic skills (shooting, puck handling, skating form). Campers will then, throughout the day, take part in our many daily activities and events.

NOTE: If your player is 4 years old, you must contact Coach JJ to discuss if this is the correct program for your child. The program is typically designed for 4 to 7-year-olds.
